Design Spaces For Learning
By Ewan McIntosh

15th - 17th June 2015, London
Overview:
What are the different approaches non-designers can take to rethink the process for designing physical and virtual spaces for learning, and rethinking the nature of those spaces themselves? From the tradition of developing a narrow design brief to the design thinking processes increasingly used in product and service design, you will explore how space influences learning situations, and how learning itself can play a role in influencing future learning space design.

Objectives:
Explore a broad range of the influences from educational and design worlds on the design of learning and teaching spaces in the digital age. This includes the exploration of creative and experiential spaces in the creative industries and the world of learning.
We will examine and analyse learning space design, theory and practice that informs planning, and creating strategies for improving collaboration with our school communities.

Day 1 : Collaborative immersion into what is possible, using research, hands-on activities and multimedia resources. Synthesis of key trends. Preparation for Day 2.

Day 2 : An immersive observation and empathy exercise, the Learning Walk, around the city in which we are based. Seeing research in practice.
