The Brain Loves a Song is a two-day workshop in which attendees will learn the WHY in music’s importance, the HOW to implement this knowledge and the WHERE for finding the resources. Not everyone should teach music; but, everyone should use music to teach. If you want to learn about how to implement the brain research findings into your daily lessons, this is the workshop for you! Through lecture, interaction, music and hands on activities, participants will have fun while learning how to enhance learning skills with brain research and music. |
| |
| Objectives |
| |
- Give a better understanding of music’s importance and the ability to use it easily;
- Provide information about the brain research findings and how music is the PERFECT tool to implement them; and
- Create a clear picture of how the use of music and movement will help the brain to learn better and retain information longer.

| Agenda: |
| |
Day 1: Basic brain research findings and how to use music as a tool to implement them. Explanation of brain development, when the brain is ready for cognitive skills and how to get the brain ready.
|
| |
Day 2 Further exploration into specific activities for putting skills in place. Focus on main subject areas to include language, math, science and social skills. One and one half hour devoted to each subject area listed below.
Making Math Memorable (Grades Pre K - 5) Learn ways to make math lessons memorable by using techniques with TPR (Total Physical Response). Brain research findings prove that we all learn better when the total body is involved. Fact Families, foundation for multiplication and various math skills will be learned with the movement, manipulatives and music Mar. will involve you with in this workshop.
Making Science and Social Studies Memorable (Grades PreK – 5)
Capture your students interest and desire to know more by using the ideas you will enjoy learning in this workshop. When we get an emotional attachment to something, we remember it. Letting children see your pleasure in teaching it will generate their pleasure in learning it and make it memorable!
Tune Them In and Turn Them On (Grades Pre K - 5) Get your classroom’s attention with lessons that will turn them on to learning. Magnets are memorable when you swing dance; parts of speech can be done to a slide. Time will move quickly while you learn to tune into your class with these suggestions and turn them on for further learning.
You Don’t Need to Be a Scientist to Like Science (Grades Pre K - 5) You don’t need to be a musician to like music! It’s being involved in the enjoyment of the process that gives us pleasure. Science can, and should be, fun and something all children can be successful with. Awaken the scientist in your students with these catchy ideas.
